David and Carol McIntyre’s Big Dog Racing of Hampton, Ontario and Amélie Aubut of Pont-Rouge, Quebec will get some early racing excitement on Thursday, Feb. 23 with their 2-year-old fillies in Oklahoma City. Both ownership groups each have a runner in Remington Park’s training races, the fourth day of such races at the track this winter.

Remington has scheduled 10 training race dates for Quarter Horses and Appaloosa and Paint Horses. The races are not mandatory but are popular as there have been close to 150 entrants on some of these dates.

Senator Woot, bought by the McIntyres for $4,000 at the Heritage Place Fall Yearling sale, also in Oklahoma City, will get her first taste of racing in Thursday’s fourth race, starting from post six in an eight-horse field.

“We bought her at the sale and brought her home,” said Carol McIntyre. “But she was doing so well we sent her back down a few weeks later to keep going.”

Senator Woot was sent to Bobby and Stacey Capps who have a successful training centre in Vinita, OK and have done plenty of business with Canadian owners and trainers.
The filly is a daughter of the exciting young sire Louisiana Senator and is the first horse the McIntyres have had training in the south during the winter.

“She’s big for a 2-year-old but not [butt] high, she grew up very evenly.”

Aubut’s 2-year-old filly, Silky Senator, is also by Louisiana Senator and she was a $4,500 purchase at the Heritage yearling sale. She competes in the seventh training race on the day which gets underway at 11 a.m. (CST) or 10 a.m. EST.

Jason Pascoe of GFR Racing in Pontypool, ON will be training the fillies once they return to Ontario. Pascoe, incidentally, trained last year’s Alex Picov Memorial Futurity winner Denali Teller Off, a daughter of Louisiana Senator.

All training races, which are non-wagering, are at 250 yards.

The replay of each training race will be posted 3 to 5 minutes after each race. http://www.oqhra.com/racing/training-races
