Ontario-bred DM Paid in Cash and Ontario owned and trained Sign It Down are among the newest recipients of the American Quarter Horse Association’s Superior Racehorse Award, presented to horses who have earned 200 AQHA points or more.

The AQHA points which differ from the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario, Inc. are presented to horses who place in races per 13 different class scales from Graded Stakes through claiming events.

Dm Paid in Cash, a sorrel, 6-year-old mare by Dm Selexus – Unpaid by Dash for Cash is owned and was bred by Heste Sport Inc. of Rene Hunderup and Darlene Ballis-Hunderup of King City, ON.

The mare has won four of 41 career races, placed in 11 others and her victory in July 2016 in a $14,000 allowance race would have earned her 12 AQHA points according to the AQHA Rulebook (https://aqha.com/media/15121/0-rulebook-digital-2017.pdf).

Heste Sport, Inc. led all breeders in Canada by AQHA points with 519 ahead of Christine Tavares (377) and Gary and Marlene McNichol (269).

The Hunderups also led all owners in Canada with 494 points followed by Picov Cattle Co. (386) and Rick Crispi (385).

Heste Sport was the Hi Point Ontario Breeder for 2016 according to QROOI points at 190 and second in the Hi Point Owner category with 183 points to the partnership of Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre which earned 195 points.

Wincikaby and DK Training Centre own Sign It Down, which also received a Superior Racehorse plaque from the AQHA this year. The Arizona-bred mare by First Down Dash – Apollos Signature by Apollo has won seven of 29 career races and she was a three-time winner in 2016. Don Reid trains Sign It Down.

All AQHA point leaders for 2016 can be found, by region and overall, at https://www.aqha.com/services/raceleaders.

The QROOI Awards banquet on Saturday, November 26 will recognize QROOI point leaders as well as winners of its Ontario Superior Racehorse Award (50 or more QROOI points), Register of Merit (45 points or more in one year) and Legion of Merit (5 or more wins in a season).

There are currently three categories of races for points through the QROOI system and points are awarded to those horses whose owners or trainers are members of the QROOI.
